Day 7 - Most underrated book
May. 7th, 2013 08:08 am7. Most underrated book
Carrie by Stephen King
I read this book when it came out in 1974, brand new book from a new guy, fresh from the book club. It was a departure from the demonic horror that had captivated the 60s and 70s. It was about that girl we all knew or that we all were. The one who was different, who was bullied and abused by her classmates and it was about her revenge. OUR revenge. That this was a breakthrough book is what makes it unique and also why it’s underrated. It is not formulaic; it was the book that many formulas came from.
The book is being made into a new movie and it was made into an old movie but I like the book. There is a flavor in all of King’s books that cannot be captured on film. You have to read the books to feel that creepiness.
