THE KING’S CHOICE
Aragorn had been king for many, many years. He and his queen, Arwen, had brought Gondor back from devastation to prosperity. They had rebuilt a broken land and tried to govern it wisely. They had raised sons and daughters to rule in their stead when they were gone.
And he was ready to go now. He was tired and old though he still looked near the same age he had when he was crowned. He had aged on the inside if not on the outside.
He feared for Arwen when he was gone but there was little he could do. Just as he had, she’d made her choice. For many years, he’d believed it was the right one but now, now instead of joining her parents in the West, she and her brothers would die and turn to dust, just as he would.
He wondered if it was worth it.
