THE SUPPORTERS
Gandalf watched Merry and Pippin cavorting all over Rivendell. They seemed to be silly and useless but he knew better. He’d seen them as they’d grown up. He’d seen their love for one another, for Frodo and Sam. He knew they’d be there to help with the journey and with the burden.
He’d known what was coming; so had Elrond and the others. They’d all argued about the best way to get rid of the Ring, but he’d won. He knew a Hobbit was strong enough to save them all.
He knew Pippin and Merry had a part as well.
