I find it interesting how many people in the last day have posted about politics. Most on my flist don't usually post much about such things.

Who to vote for? )

Oh well, maybe, like some other flisters, I'll do a write in. Jack Sparrow? Frodo? Hmmmm.

FLEETING MOMENTS

The two boys rode the big horse as if the three were one, Alexander in front, guiding the horse with his knees while Hephaestion clung to him from behind. The fields passed swiftly before them as they ran full out, the horse stretching his legs as far and fast as they would go. The boy urged him to move even faster.

“Why do we hurry so?” Hephaestion asked breathlessly.

“Because” was all the answer Alexander gave.

Years later, the two boys were men; one an emperor, the other making sure the empire ran smoothly.

Alexander moved swiftly and relentlessly east, never staying long in one place and adding to his burdens as he went.

“Why do we hurry so?” It was not the first time Hephaestion asked the question.

“Because” was still all the answer he got.

**

The funeral rites were done. Hephaestion was declared a divine hero by the oracle at Siwa and Alexander had given him a funeral fit for a king, even extinguishing the flame in the temple, an honor reserved for kings. But he could still hear the voice asking, “Why do we hurry so?”

“Because we had so little time, my friend, so little time.”

ELLADAN’S QUEST

Elladan chased the bird for miles and miles. It seemed to know what he wanted and meant to thwart him at every turn. But the youth did not give up. He was determined.

No mortal man could ever have caught up with the blue-black raven but Elladan was not a mortal man. He finally caught the bird.

“I am sorry to do this,” he told the bird as he completed his task. The bird protested at first then was quiet. “Thank you for the sacrifice you made.”

Elladan freed the raven and he flew away quickly. And the young man had what he came for.

A solid black quill for Erestor to do his sums with.

He smiled, knowing the older elf would be pleased.
