Brokeback Mountain
Jan. 16th, 2006 09:11 amWell, my lovely husband drove me 50 miles to see the movie yesterday. It was packed.
What to say about it? The story is sad, a story of regret and tragedy. The acting is superb. Heath Ledger's Ennis was exactly as Annie Proulx wrote him. Jake was lovely and needy as Jack. I don't have much to say about the women except I could have gone all day without the gratuitous sight of naked breasts. That is the one bit that I think could have been left out. The scenery is wonderful, the mountains absolutely breathtaking.
I recommend it. This is NOT a gay cowboy movie. I really did not see it as a gay movie at all. The plot was simple and could be about a het couple as well...perhaps what would keep them apart is different but it is no new tale. It is brilliantly told, however.
GO see it.
