I went to a movie theater in May 1977 to see this movie about space. It was getting a lot of press and theaters were selling out. We had one theater with one screen in town plus a drive-in. Movie often sold out quick. I honestly don't know who I was with or where we sat... I only remember seeing that Star Destroyer go over and it looked almost as if I was right there! I am not sure I even blinked my eyes during the whole movie so as not to miss a second. There was a delightfully snarky princess and two gorgeous men.

I had no idea what this movie franchise would mean to my life.

Loved the movies and got toys, books ets... flash forward to the 90s. I was not well and brand new Star Wars books were being published, lots of them and a lot of them were pretty good, better by far than the usual movie tie-in drivel. I started reading them. I had been ill on and off from my late teens and I became very ill in the nineties... I had videos of Star Wars - on days that I didn't feel like getting out of bed, I had Luke, Leia, and Han to keep me company. When I couldn't sleep, they lulled me to sleep - I was safe in their world because it all came out fine in the end.

I still collect and read Star Wars BUT Disney has ruined the franchise, I think, by making movies with the same plot as the original 3 and inventing new characters that I cannot like or care about. The movies set in the old 'verse - Rogue One and Solo - were quite good while the two of the third trilogy so far are horrid. The series Star Wars Rebels was also well done. At least we got to see General Leia Organa. I will continue to watch them... I can't help myself, but there is no feeling of awe left in them.
