The Unquiet GraveThe Unquiet Grave by Sharyn McCrumb

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I read the entire book in one day. I have long been a fan of Ms. McCrumb and this one did not disappoint. It is the story of the Greenbrier Ghost. It a tale woven from truth and myth into a story that rivetted me to the page until the very end. If you are a fan of mysteries, of folktales, of Appalachian history then this is a book you'll enjoy It is told through young Zona's mother's eyes as she seeks justice for her murdered child. It is also told through the trial attorney who helped defend zona's killer, one of the first black attorneys in that area of West Virginia.

I met Ms. McCrumb on Sept 24 of this year in Mount Airy and she gave a wonderful talk about her research into the facts of this book.

The Diva Haunts the House (A Domestic Diva Mystery, #5)The Diva Haunts the House by Krista Davis

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I read this one for my Cozy Mystery club at Facebook and I enjoyed it quite a lot. I like Halloween themed books and this one had parties, spookiness and a real murder just for fun. I liked the main character quite a lot but hope to read the previous 4 to get caught up on the backstory. Sophie is an event planner and she is directing the work on the town's haunted house and, of course, things go awry. Her ex and her cop boyfriend figure quite prominently in the story as does her niece, Jen, who is a local teen staying with her for Halloween.
