Part Thirty
Protectors
“There can’t be any dinosaur eggs here,” Claire said to Owen. “They’re all female.”
“One of your new brachiosaurs is male. I saw myself. I named him Fluffy.” Owen never made jokes about dinosaurs like he did everything else.
Claire wrung her hands. “Dr. Malcolm told me this would happen.”
“You talked to Ian Malcolm?”
“Yes. He called to tell me things would not go well here. So did Dr. Grant.”
“Maybe we should’ve listened.”
“Too late now. The world will get along okay with a few dinosaurs on a small island. It doesn’t need protecting. The dinosaurs do. We have to protect them from the world.”
“We’d better find those nests then and see if we can corral the mothers and eggs in one of the enclosures to protect them from the others, the predators.”
Claire agreed. They hopped in a Jeep and took off to search for nests.
