#14 Friends
Mar. 14th, 2011 11:58 pmI am starting this at 11:57.
What is a friend?
According to the dictionary:
–noun
1. a person attached to another by feelings of affection or personal regard.
2. a person who gives assistance; patron; supporter: friends of the Boston Symphony.
3. a person who is on good terms with another; a person who is not hostile: Who goes there? Friend or foe?
4. a member of the same nation, party, etc.
5. ( initial capital letter ) a member of the Religious Society of friends; a Quaker.
–verb (used with object)
6. Rare . to befriend.
—Idiom
7. make friends with, to enter into friendly relations with; become a friend to.
A friend is the dearest treasure in life. We may have family, spouses, children and friends but we are doubly blessed when among the family we have, we also count them our friends. Larry is my best friend. My other two dearest friends were my mother and Sara. Then there is our family of the heart, the friends we choose to share our lives with, whether they live near or far.
Tolkien's dear friend, C. S. Lewis said this: "Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art.... It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things that give value to survival."
Here is a very young James Taylor singing one my favorite friend songs:
