UNDER THE FALLS
I fell in love with him at first sight. He was the fairest creature I’d ever seen as he stood beneath the cascading waterfall. I dismounted and walked toward him. He was an elf, and though I’d been around elves since I was a child, I’d never seen one like him.
He was certainly no Noldor. He was fair of color as the Sindarin elves were. He must be from Thranduil’s kingdom, I thought.
Before I knew it, he was gone from the waterfall and walking toward me, wearing only his leggings.
“Who might you be?” His voice was soft and lyrical. “I am Legolas of the Green Wood.”
“I am Aragorn, son of Arathorn.”
“The heir of Isildur.”
“Yes. But of late, I am simply a Ranger of the North.”
“I had heard as much.” So he knew who I was though we’d never met.
“We will see each other again,” I said with more hope in my voice than I’d wanted to show to him.
He smiled a smile that rivaled the sun’s brightness. “Indeed we will, my new friend.” And we both mounted our horses and rode in opposite directions, knowing that our time would come.
Someday.
