Summary: Elrond meets the future King.

FOREVER IN A MOMENT
Elrond heard them ride up. He had been pacing in his study for hours on end. When he’d had word that Arathorn might be in danger, Elladan and Elrohir had headed out to warn him. Elrond had helped to raise this descendant of his brother and was fond of him. He meant to protect Arathorn, his wife and especially his son.
Elrond rushed out to greet them. His face fell when he saw that his sons escorted only a terrified young woman who held a small child in her arms.
“Father, this is Gilraen.” Elladan helped her to dismount. She seemed to be very composed even though she was afraid.
She bowed. “My Lord.”
Elrond took her hand and pulled her up to her feet. He wanted to see the boy, Arathorn’s son.
“May I?” He gestured to the blanket covering the boy. She nodded and he lifted the covering from the child’s face. The boy was tiny with a cap of dark hair and pudgy cheeks. He opened his eyes and smiled at Elrond.
Elrond stopped breathing. Elros. This boy had his own brother’s eyes, as blue as the sky and as clear as a babbling brook. He put his hand out to the child. Estel grabbed his finger and grinned a toothy grin.
“Da?”
“He is not your father, Estel. Your father is gone away,” the pretty young woman finally managed.
“He may call me whatever he wishes,” Elrond said and turned quickly to Elladan. “Have the maids make a room for them, and have her bring Arwen’s old bed to the room for the baby.”
Little Estel had wiggled around in his mother’s arms and held his arms out to Elrond. “Take.” Elrond did so and the future of the world was changed, forever in a moment.
