Back in the 70's, 74 or so, I read these books published by New American Library paperbacks. I only really remember one plot well but I have forgotten the author and the name of the book(s).

The one I remember is about this family who somehow ends up on a deserted island. They're young hippie types and they actually do fine. They have a small son. They live on the island until the son grows up and they find he has a 'doll' made of straw that looks like his mother... of course, what happens next is guessable but rather than being awful it was rather sadand sort of inevitable.

He also wrote some other ones about rather twisted teenaged boys, one who suffered impotence after the first time he was with a girl...maybe.

I never said they were literature. *grin* I read several of them probably because of the odd and rather forbidden subject matter and now I cannot for the life of me remember who wrote them or their titles.

Anyone?
