An update-ish update

Let's see...

This is what's been happenin'.

Some of y'all remember Sara's friend S, who I was very close to for several years after Sara died then we sort of had a falling out and haven't spoken for nearly ten years? Well, she contacted me on FB a few weeks ago and we've sort of reconnected. She is married, works from home, has a chronic condition of some sort and evidently has a therapist who has encouraged her to deal with her grief over Sara and to make amends with some folks she may have wrongly fallen out with.

While I am cautious, I never stopped loving her or her daughter (who is now Sky and prefers 'they'). S said that she finally understood that the person she loved and planned on spending her life with was Sara. And I finally understood HER loss.

Life is strange sometimes.

Writing is still hard for some reason. I swear it is the second menopause that's doing it. Damned hysterectomy! All I needed was to go through that shit again!

The scars where I got the melanoma removed are looking good, though I still have some pain and soreness where the lymph nodes were removed. I go back to all my docs in September for the obligatory checks for cancer and a Peripheral Artery Disease test. Hopefully I will NOT have three surgeries in the next year as I have in the last 11 months.

We put in two stamped concrete walkways from the driveway to the porch and they're so nice. It makes walking MUCH easier for me. While I can walk fine for small periods, long walks or steep upgrades are something I can't quite manage. We have to get a few tweaks on the walkway and I'll share a picture.

Since Jenny was here in June, we cleaned out our little pantry, a bunch of cabinets, our laundry room and I cleaned a bunch of clothes from my closet just today. The study is next but I think I will take very small bites of it at a time. Anybody want some books for shipping costs only? I may put up a list soon of books I'm wanting to rehome.

Larry is adjusting to retirement well. He has his routine everyday and sort of sticks to that. He does a lot more stuff around the house and that's great for me. Poor thing got into the poison ivy last week when he mowed and ended up at the doctor twice with it. He finally got a regimen of steroid pills and it's finally starting to go away. He gets it all over even if he only actually initially gets it on one place. It spreads like wildfire. And get this - he cannot, for the life of him, identify the plants. I took him and Sara both the woods to show them, but neither of them seemed to be able to figure out which plants were poison and which not.

We are still masking for Covid protection as our local numbers are quite high and not many do mask any more. We have both been vaccinated then boosted twice, but we still prefer not to take a chance. We do go to the movies now and again - we choose a matinee show on a weekday and end up with ten or people a room that could hold more than a hundred. We're nacl to takeout instead of eating inside fr a while unitl numbers get better.

Open Doors is working still on the import of OEAM to Ao3. I am so thankful they are doing this. I asked back in 2019, I think, and they took a look and decided that it was a Tolkien based site that deserved to be saved. There were many stories there that were not archived any other place. I can't wait until it's finished! It should be a pretty large collection. ANYONE who posted there in the past is welcome to post to the Ao3 collection as well. Also any Tolkien writer is welcome. If you already had work at OEAM, give them some more time to finish before uploading any stuff you might have had there in the past.

It's 1 am and I need to watch nightly Avengers Assemble episode and get some sleep. Goodnight.

All in all, things sound pretty positive and that walkway sounds wonderful as well. Here's hoping (in advance) for all good when you see your doctors later this year.

I hope your reconnection with S remains a positive.

Who wants a second menopause?!!! I hope it passes quickly.

I hope all your appointments are uneventful and show you healing well.

The walkway sounds like a lovely addition that will make your life much easier.

I've never had poison ivy, but I dread the thought of it. Sorry for Larry, that sounds horrific.

I'm still masking, too. I appreciate the few others I see masking, but most people aren't. Of course, we live in a red area (of a blue state) where the Sheriff department refused to enforce masking back when it was required, so what can you expect? *so irritated about it*

I remember about Sara's friend, and I hope it goes well between you and her now. Healing that wound will be good for you.

I had a hysterectomy a few years go, but thankfully no second menopause. My first one was mild, only the hot flashes, sometimes while giving class in a T-shirt to a group of students with jackets.

Where is the AO3 collection?

I am thinking of visiting the USA again during my summer. I have always gone to where my daughter was living, but not this time. I am going alone somewhere. If you can reccomend a nice place to visit alone I'd be grateful. =)

Not a cold place with snow, because I will freeze. I was thinking of visiting a place where I could rest and have a nice time. Only for a few days. I never travel for longer than a week or so.

So glad you are healing from your surgery! Sending good thoughts that all goes well when you see your doctors.

Poor Larry! I got into poison ivy once when I was 6, and it was so pretty, and I picked some and got my face right in it. That was fun.

I'm happy to see that OEAM is being backed up onto Ao3. There were so many good stories there.
