Why I hate guns
Ten years ago on a Thursday in June, I was shot at on my front porch by an unknown assailant. We did what you’re supposed to do, called 911 and a deputy came out, treated it as nuisance call, more or less and left. Ten minutes later, ten feet from me, in another room, someone shot through my window into my house. Called 911 again. Two cars with four deputies came out this time. Said a bird probably hit the side of the house. I found the bullet hole. They were embarrassed.
One of them took me outside ONTO THE PORCH WHERE THE GUNMAN, WHO WAS STILL AT LARGE, SHOT AT ME AN HOUR BEFORE and asked me if my husband was shooting at me, said we both seemed mad. I told him that I was mad! Someone had shot at me twice now and they were doing nothing!
They still did NOTHING.
The next day, Friday, hubby asks around and finds out our shooter was a boy whose dad rented a house two doors away. He calls the cops. They tell him the one on the case is off until Monday! The boy, meanwhile, is walking up and down the highway in front of my house with a 30-06 deer rifle slung on his back. All day long.
The day after that, hubby and his brother sat in the edge of the woods on our property all night and watched as the boy patrolled in front of our house all night with another boy. They did not appear armed this time.
On Sunday night, the boy broke into my mother’s unoccupied home and trashed it, stealing a few things. Finally on Monday morning, after we called 911 about the break-in, they arrested him. He had basically terrorized us and driven us from our home for an entire weekend. Local law enforcement had done nothing to find him or catch him.
Prior to shooting at me, he had severed our phone lines. He had also broken into our house a month before. We had called the cops then but they did nothing in the way of trying to figure it all out.
Neither if us had ever met the boy.
I was inundated with calls from concerned ‘friends’ trying to talk me into getting a concealed carry permit. I kept asking them what good that might have done me. None had a sensible answer. A gun would not have made any of this better.
I HATE guns. I’d prefer that we ban them all, period. As that is not practical, there is no reason that we can’t be more careful who can lawfully buy them. I seriously don’t give a fig about anyone’s second amendment rights. The amendment is so vaguely worded that it is not clear that anyone outside real military and real state militias have any right to them anyway. I do know that the constitution does not give you the right to kill me or to kill 10-year-olds in Texas. It’s time for this country to step up and act like responsible adults are running it, instead of the outlaws gangs in old western movies.
Please vote for those who support the regulation of firearms and the banning of selling any type of assault rifle to any civilian. Our lives actually depend on it.

I agree, absolutely no one outside the military should have access to a weapon that was designed to kill people. Any firearm could, of course, but at such speed and capacity should not be in the hands of civilians. And I say this as someone who grew up with guns in the house and who's served in the military. I wish we had politicians who had the backbone to stand up to the NRA.

There is absolutely NO legitimate reason for ANYONE to have a multi-shot high powered military-styled weapon in the home. NONE. If these a-holes are so concerned about "right to life" for women, they shouldn't have weapons in their homes either. And, anyone under 21 shouldn't have a firearm of any kind at all.

I agree with you about guns and voting for people who support gun laws.
(Though I do believe that people can own as many muskets as they want. /end bad joke *g*)
