Jean-Luc was in his nineties when Data came to visit him at the family vineyard in France. He’d just been given command of his own ship.
“What advice should I give you, Data? You might not have been born human but you have more humanity than most people I know.”
“When did you know you were ready for command, sir?”
“Five years after I got my first command.”
“So there’s nothing wrong with me?”
“Data, you’ll do a superb job. The job is learn as you go and you have a great capacity to learn.”
“Thank you, sir. I’m ready.”
