#3 Star

Today’s word is Star.

No, not Charlie Sheen. He is more of a boil or carbuncle on the butt of humanity right now.

More like the twinkle, twinkle variety.

I remember when I was a little girl that my daddy would talk to me about stars at night before I went to bed, about how they were so very far away that what we were seeing was an image that was already millions of years old when we saw it. That blew my tiny little mind! It was beyond what I could even imagine. Still is.

But when I watched the TV series Babylon 5, Delenn said something that I will never forget:
"The molecules of your body are the same molecules that make this station and the nebula outside, that burn inside the stars themselves. We are star-stuff. We are the Universe, made manifest, trying to figure itself out. And, as we have both learned, sometimes the Universe needs a change of perspective."

Science tells us this is true, that we are all made from the same thing, that we are all but pieces of stars in all their configurations, that we are made of the matter created at the birth of the universe itself.

I like that. I like thinking that I am part of everything that ever was and everything that will be… that I am made of star stuff.
