THE BOLD HARLOT
I remember the day that Alexander first laid eyes on the Persian boy. I knew even then that my world had changed forever.
Alexander seldom took lovers. He seldom had need of a lover. All of his energy went into building his empire, into planning his next battle, his next conquest. His world was full. When he did need someone, I was there for him.
This was different. His eyes wandered away then back to Bagoas, who looked down but only after he caught Alexander’s eye for a split second. What a bold little harlot he was! He was flirting with Alexander and his master still lived.
Later when we had a moment alone, Alexander spoke of him to me. “Did you see Darius’ boy? Have you ever seen a more exotic creature?” His eyes shone with excitement.
I said nothing at all. There was nothing to say.
