On Mother's Day and Knights

Well, it's Mother's Day and I'm a mother.  It's nice to get taken out to eat and get pressies but it's still nicer to still have a mother.  I took mine out yesterday to see Orlando... who she deems as 'really pretty' and that was why we were surprised by how much we both loved Kingdom of Heaven. It was a hell of a movie.

Some spoilers ahead...

I expected it to be just another vehicle for Orlando to look good.  I was actually quite annoyed that he was the 'star' because face it, the boy has done little but pose prettily in movies so far. He was a very plausible and very well done blacksmith cum knight instead.  It was easy to love his character, a boy so stubbornly nobel that he denies himself the woman he loves out of a sense of chivalry.  This movie made me remember why I love movies about nobel men doing the right thing even if they know it will not turn out well for them.

There was much speculation that this movie would be anti-islamic.  It was not.  I heard one person say it was anti-christian.  It was not.  The Christians are more the villains but not because of their religion but because they used Christianity as a means to satisfy their greed for power and riches. This movie was about men on both sides who were good and true and did what they had to for the good of their own people, men with grace and mercy, men who sought to do right for right's sake.

In a few words, I loved it.

I may write more later when I see it again... there are actors that need mention.  I will say I wanted to lick Jeremy Irons!

later!
