Day 9 - Snowflake Challenge

Challenge #9

In your own space, promote at least one canon that you adore (old, new, forever fandom). Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.


Tolkien! He was the one who made want to go to other worlds, even ones that did not exist. I read The Hobbit at 12 or so then the rest of LOTR later. I was totally entranced by them. They described their world in such loving detail and it was inhabited by such noble creatures that I wanted to go there. I rememebr reading The Silmarillion when it came out in the 70s and not being quite as thrilled, though the bit about creation stuck with me.

I have to admit that I am not nearly as enamored with the Valar and Maiar as most people seem to be. I prefer the elves... the old kings and kingdoms. I love the adventure and nobility in LOTR. I have measured all fantasy since then against Tolkien and so far, all have come up lacking for me.
