Day 4 - Random Love Month - Babylon 5

In the late 90s, my friend Barbie sent me a box of home copied videos of season 1 of Babylon 5 along with copies of the guidebooks for each season. SciFi tv was showing an episode every night at 7 as well. And boom, I was hooked!

I hung out online at a chat place called Delphi Forums back then and I joined a group led by a guy named Mike Helba. I helped run it for several years. I believe that Mike might have been one of the people who began DragonCon in Atlanta. He was a great guy and I've lost touch over the years, but he was instrumental in the making of a fangirl - I learned how to run and moderate chatrooms and how to run message boards from working with him. I also have a 12 inch Garibaldi that he gave me asa thank you for helping him out.

I have added many fandoms over the years but I've never left babylon 5. At the current time, I run three communities here on DW (And LJas well) - [community profile] babylon5_love, [community profile] universe_today and [community profile] b5_revisited, all communities made by [personal profile] ruuger, who wanted to step away from running them.

While B5 is an old television show, it is not dead. New fans come to the show all the time - it reminds me of Tolkien. It is a large body of work that has an actual story arc that plays out over 5 years. There are books and spinoffs as well.

It's also a friendly fandom. I invite any of you looking for something new to come give B5 a look. We might even be doing a new rewatch beginning at [community profile] b5_revisited.

Actually, your posts on B5_revisted have inspired me to find where the show was streaming and start watching - I just finished watching the episode Season 1:13 "Signs and Portents" and I think I'm hooked!

That is actually how I am watching it! I had started the first season a few years ago on Hulu, but then they pulled it. It was long enough ago that I had to restart, but I'm definitely enjoying myself more the second time around.

Oh, B5... ❤️ I’ve introduced my kid to it a couple of years ago but we didn’t get very far—my sets don’t have subtitles and we’re not native English speakers. But his language skills have gotten way better so I thinks it’s time for take 2.

Yeah, I have DVDs.
The movies have Finnish subtitles but the boxes only have English for hearing impaired. And Portuguese, Italian, and German but...I'm not gonna go there. :D
ruuger: Sheridan and Delenn from Babylon 5 kissing (B5: John/Delenn)

You've done a fantastic job at keeping the communities alive, and I thank you for it :)

edit to add: Accidentally posted the comment before I was finished... I meant to also say that I remember the Delphi Forums and Mike. It was one of the best fannish forums that I've been a member of.

I did: 190 Bester Place. It was around from 1999 to about five years ago, I guess, when the other B5 site that was kindly hosting mine went down.
