Thor sat in Gamora’s chair, clearly aggravating Peter Quill. Actually, most everything he did was to aggravate Quill. It was almost more fun than poking at Loki. At least, Quill hadn’t tried to stab him yet.

Thor remembered that Tony Stark told him that Loki stole the Tesseract when they messed up their time heist in New York. He wondered if Loki had figured out how to get to their time. He really missed his brother, something he wasn’t sure he’d ever say.

He turned to Quill. “Did I ever tell you about the time Loki turned into a snake?”

Gerald the alpaca had a good life.

He lived by a large lake and his pets were usually nice to him. They were a cute little family. The father and the little one gave him treats and petted him all the time. But the female one – she was special. She yelled at him and fussed at him when the others were around, but when they weren’t, she brought fresh cut grass and little bundles of hay. She patted his head and called him Gerry.

He thought she was a goddess. Only a goddess would be so beautiful and so kind.

She touched it. It was cool and smooth.

“There you are!” Pepper stopped short when she saw that Morgan had opened the locked closet.

“Did you feel like a hero, mom?”

“No. I just wanted to help and I knew Daddy and the Avengers would need all the help they could get.”

“That makes you a hero, doesn’t it, Mom?”

Morgan loved to sneak out to the garage and look for things her dad had squirreled away there. She remembered finding Mom’s Rescue helmet when she was little. It was one of the last clear memories she had of her father.

“Was he a hero, Mom?” she’d asked her mom.

Mom hadn’t said anything for several minutes and Morgan thought she was going to start crying again. She had stopped crying all the time.

Her mom finally spoke. “He was a hero and he really did save the world. Being your dad was the thing he was most proud of.”

Tony’s breathing was labored. “Finally!” he shouted, collapsing beside Steve.

“I told you they were too little,” Steve said as he lifted his combat boots and set them on the work bench. “Maybe you can design me a better pair?”

He hadn’t heard Clint come into the room. Steve turned to look at him.

Clint repeated, “She loved you. Not like she loved me or even Bruce. She loved you. I know she never told you. She wouldn’t have.”

Steve closed his eyes. He’d certainly loved her, had from the time she’d made him kiss her in the mall to fool Rumlow. Even though they’d been lovers for quite a while, he never deluded himself with the thought that she might have feelings for him as more than a friend.

“I was her friend, that’s all.”

“You were her everything, Rogers. I wanted you to know that, to know how lucky you were.”

Steve smiled sadly at him. “That much I did know.”

“Don’t go out there and get yourself killed. You gotta live because she -” Clint choked up and stopped talking for a moment. “Go live your life. Find someone she’d approve of. Have some little Captains.”

“Not sure I could love anyone like I did her.”

“Love’s not pie, man. The more you give, the more you get. You needed to know.”

The tears didn’t start until Clint had left the room.

“I don’t like limitations and rules,” she murmured as she put her arms around him.
