INDEPENDENCE
Malcolm Reynolds didn’t need anyone. No one at all. Sure, he wanted certain people around him: Zoe, Wash, Kaylee and even Jayne. Simon and River were useful too at times. Shepherd Book shared the chores and helped out with everything too.
Then there was Inara, the last person who lived on the ship. He didn’t need Inara.
She was the one person he had no need for. As a matter of fact, she irritated the hell out of him. What good was a Companion on a cargo ship? She stayed in her shuttle and did her companion thing. She put crazy notions in Kaylee’s head too when the girl needed to be keeping Serenity running.
No. He did not need Inara. Not at all.
He rose from his seat in the bridge and went looking for that damned woman. He needed her rent to buy fuel for their next trip.
