UNEXPECTED GUESTS
Gil-galad heard a knock and got up from the sofa to open the door. Oropher said nothing but followed Gil-galad to the door. He was curious. They weren’t expecting guests.
“You didn’t order a pizza, did you?” It was actually quite a common thing for Oropher to do.
Oropher shook his head, perplexed.
When they opened the door, in came three little creatures who looked a bit like tiny men in tuxedoes. The one in front looked about furtively. “Kowalski reporting, sir! All clear, Skipper,” he called as the second one came in.
They acted as if they didn’t even see Gil-galad and Oropher.
The third little “man” had a notepad and a red crayon.
“Read me the list, Private,” said Skipper.
“Silly beans, sushi, banana peelings. We don’t have this one yet, Skipper.” He showed Skipper his list, pointing to it with his red crayon.
The elves watched, amazed as the three little creatures began to search every inch of their house. They disappeared into the bedroom after making a shambles of the den and kitchen.
Gil-galad stood dumbfounded as the sounds of objects being tossed about and broken reached his ears. Oropher looked as confused as he did.
After a few minutes, the three little beings reappeared in the same order they came in. The waddled through the door and turned around to look at the bewildered elves as if noticing them for the first time.
“Smile and wave, boys, smile and wave,” Skipper told the other two and they did just that before disappearing down the street. It was only as they waddled out of sight that both elves realized that all three penguins had left with one thing they had not had when they’d entered the house.
Each one wore a pair of bright purple socks.
