Fandom Friday

Got busy yesterday and thought I'd posted. Old age!

I am a fan of many things and I write fanfiction because I love to write.

BUT I do not write in some of my favorite fandoms - Sta Wars and Star Trek are the perfect examples. Why? One of the reasons is the fandoms themselves are quite toxic. There are factions who battle in those fandoms, big factions. I am a fan in one of the other big fandoms - Marvel Cinematic Universe and there are big factions there as well as shipper wars, too. I will never really understand this. I have few OTPs because that's silly, especially when you fight with other people over it. The reason I am in any fandom is the fun and distraction from real life stuff it provides. I don't get why people have to bring so much drama to something so simple.

Same, I read fic in a bunch of fandoms I don't write in, either because the fandom is so large that every time I think of a scenario I'd like to see, it's already been written, or because the fandom is utterly toxic.

I don't get ship wars in the least; if I don't care for a ship, I just avoid it, no harm, no foul, and I don't understand why other people get so invested in fighting over these things. I also only have a few ships I'd consider OTPs, and even for these I'm generally happy to read fic involving threesomes or poly situations.

Those are my two big fandoms (though I heard far less about ST being toxic, SW is a frakking swamp) but I don't really hear the characters so I find them hard to write.

Honestly in 40 years of fandom shipper wars have mostly left me alone. Mostly and they usually only come for me once.

I'm with you on that. Mostly I write, find a few fannish friends who like my stuff and that's my fandom efforts. I am shocked however. Most of the LoTR slash I've seen has been Legolas/Gimli. It's not really my thing but I read it from my friends.
