On the day

It’s the 4th of July and I do not feel like celebrating. Our democracy has been hijacked by a reality tv host and a group of men who have no real wish for anyone to succeed but themselves. The reason this has happened is that the American public is both stupid and ignorant. Many of the people here in our county slept through history class, have read maybe one book in their entire lives and think FOX news tells them the truth. So they voted for a man who has no morals, ethics and cares absolutely nothing for this country and its citizens. They fly their flags and say “Make America Great Again” like trained parrots.

I have to conclude that the Christian faith these politicians and my neighbors who voted for this atrocity profess is profoundly different from the Christian doctrine put forth by Jesus Christ. I would say I am confused but I am not. Every nitwit in a pulpit thinks he’s an expert on politics AND religion with his 4th grade reading level and his 10th grade education.

I’ve got some advice for all of you.

Read a few books and historic documents.

Begin with your Bible. Read about the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. It’s not like Paul and the Old Testament. Stop disregarding the teaching of Jesus because they don’t fit your bigotry, sexism and stupidity. READ the Sermon on the Mount.

READ The Constitution of the United States of America. Make sure to READ The Bill of Rights, added to protect the rights of every American. Hint: The 2nd Amendment is not the most important one.

Buy some history books about the founding of the country (or go to the library). Get to know the founding fathers, warts and all. Read about the presidents, good and bad, and what they left us. Read about the wars. Read about the Civil War. Read about Abraham Lincoln. Read about the Roosevelts and their legacy.

Read this poem: The New Colossus by Emma Lazarus.
(I’ll help you by putting an excerpt here)
“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

When you’ve done those things, tell me again why someone who has done nothing at all for our country or its people is fit to wipe the feet of the men and women who HAVE made sacrifices to make us free and keep us free, not only in war but in the fight for human rights for all Americans and believe it or not, all people.

I will celebrate when America is free again.
